What is EMDR Therapy?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a therapy approach that helps your brain process difficult experiences so they feel less overwhelming over time.

Rather than reliving the pain of your loss, EMDR works gently to help your mind and body integrate the experience—so memories feel less intense and more manageable.

How EMDR Helps With Pet Loss

Grief after losing a pet can be especially complex. Many people experience:

  • Intense sadness that comes in waves

  • Guilt around decisions (especially euthanasia)

  • Replaying final moments

  • Feeling stuck or unable to move forward

EMDR can help you:

  • Process painful memories without becoming overwhelmed

  • Reduce feelings of guilt and “what if” thinking

  • Feel more at peace with your pet’s passing

  • Hold onto the love and connection without the same level of pain

What to Expect in Weekly Sessions

Weekly EMDR sessions provide a consistent, supportive space to work through your grief at your own pace.

In sessions, we will:

  • Gently identify what feels most distressing

  • Use EMDR techniques to process those experiences

  • Focus on both emotional and physical responses to grief

  • Move at a pace that feels safe and manageable

You are always in control of the process.

This May Be Right for You If…

  • You feel overwhelmed by the loss of your pet

  • You’re struggling with guilt or unanswered questions

  • The grief feels stuck or isn’t easing over time

  • You feel alone or misunderstood in your loss

  • You want a structured way to process your emotions

You Don’t Have to Relive Everything

A common concern with EMDR is having to revisit painful memories.

This approach is designed to be gentle and contained—you won’t be forced to go deeper than you’re ready for. You don’t have to navigate this alone. If you’re unsure whether EMDR is right for you, we can talk through what you’re experiencing and what support might look like.

You Don’t Have to Face Pet Loss Alone

Losing a beloved pet can feel overwhelming, isolating, and deeply painful. You deserve support that truly understands the depth of that bond.

Experience compassionate, inclusive EMDR therapy designed to help you process grief, cope with guilt, and begin to find a sense of peace—at a pace that feels right for you.

FAQ

  • Yes, I offer 15 minute video consults. The purpose of these brief meetings is to connect and answer questions that will help you feel comfortable getting started on your healing journey. There is no pressure to continue services following a consult, and this meeting does not establish a therapeutic relationship.

  • $260/50 minute individual sessions. Heath Savings Account (HSA)/ Flexible Savings Account (FSA) are accepted to cover the cost of sessions, and a billing statements called a “superbill” can be provided upon request.

If you have PPO insurance you can check your out-of-network coverage with your insurer directly to determine how much is covered, and a superbill can be provided monthly for you to submit to your insurer for possible reimbursement.

  • Running a private practice involves many costs beyond session time—License renewal fees, professional insurance, professional membership dues, continuing education, administrative work, and so on, that all add up. This funding model helps me:

    • Offer therapy at a lower cost to those who need it

    • Maintain a sustainable income to provide quality, consistent care

    • Grow my practice responsibly

I’m committed to transparency and fairness. If you have questions about fees or availability, please don’t hesitate to ask. My goal is to make therapy accessible while ensuring I can continue offering high-quality care for all clients.

  • For Individual Therapy and Intakes: Your intake and follow-up sessions are scheduled just for you and to ensure you have a chance to build a solid therapy connection with your therapist, our session times are kept at regular days and times. This means that our reserved sessions cannot easily be offered to another client. To ensure clarity and fairness, please take a moment to review my cancellation policy:

    • All late-cancellations and No shows are charged at the full session rate, if notice is less than 24 hours from the scheduled session time. If you would like to reschedule a session, then you will need to purchase an additional session.

    • Please complete all rescheduling, and cancelations via the Carepatron portal. Messaging me is appreciated, but will not remove the need for you to modify your appointment via the patient portal to avoid a charge.

    • If you cancel on-time within the 24 hour window, then you will not be charged. Please keep in mind that frequent cancelations, or rescheduling of sessions may lead to discussing a better meeting time to ensure consistency, or a referral if needed.

Other situations where a partial refund cannot be provided:

    • If you attend under the influence or drugs/alcohol.

    • If you are in another state outside of CA.

    • If you are actively driving, or in a moving vehicle and unable to park within 15 minutes.

    • If you are unable to obtain the privacy needed to conduct session, miss the appointment entirely, or attend 15 minutes past the grace period, then you may not be eligible for a 50% refund.

Thank you for understanding! This policy helps me keep my schedule fair and ensures that I can provide consistent, high-quality care to all clients.

  • I do not accept insurance directly and operate as a fully private pay practice.

I do contract with a select few third party mental health platforms that work with insurance outside of my practice, and you are welcome to contact me for more details.

A few reasons why I don’t take insurance:

    1. The diagnosis: Insurance companies require that I give you a diagnosis. It then turns into a constant back and forth of proving why you need care, explaining how many sessions are needed, and basically places insurance on the driver’s seat of your treatment rather than you. This matters because at the end of the day the goal of insurance is to stop paying for services as soon as they can, or cover as little as possible. This can sometimes lead to unimaginable headaches with insurance abruptly refusing to cover previously covered sessions, which can add more stress for clients when unexpected bills arrive.

    2. It can compromise your confidentiality: Once your insurance gets billed, they will begin the process of evaluating your treatment. They want to know your diagnosis, whether, or not you’ve improved and many other details. In order to make this determination, your insurance company can request access to your records at any time. As your claim is being processed, any person handling your claim will have access to your treatment record, including your diagnosis, and progress notes. By offering private pay sessions without insurance, clients who wish to maintain a higher degree of privacy have the option to do so.

    3. It’s a lot of hoops to jump: Rather than going back and forth with insurance companies all day, I want to focus on providing the absolute highest level of care to my clients.

  • A limited number of reduced-fee sessions are available at $235. Many clients choose to plan and save in advance to access these spots. Saving ahead to access therapy can bring up feelings related to financial trauma or past money stress. In therapy, I work with clients to acknowledge these feelings, reframe them, and use the process of budgeting and planning as a way to strengthen agency, self-care, and intentionality in their mental health journey. EMDR Readiness Screening Tool

Please answer all questions as best as you can. This form is anonymous and does not collect or store personal data. EMDR is highly effective for many clients, but it’s not the right fit for everyone. If it isn’t the best approach for you right now, it can always be revisited later after exploring other therapies that help build readiness and support your healing. If your results suggest EMDR may not be right for you, I’m happy to provide referrals to therapists who use other approaches, so you can get the support that’s best suited to your needs.
